Farm Projects is proud to present a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Zehra Khan, whose glittering, genre-bending sculptural works challenge our perceptions of value, material, and the animal world.
Khan, a Chicago-based artist and educator, constructs playful yet poignant animal figures from an unlikely mix of materials: gold candy wrappers, plastic gemstones, empty wine bottles, paper, and trash. Her sculptures—often perched in humorous, anthropomorphic poses—are both parody and reverence, reflecting on our cultural obsession with wealth and artificial beauty. “My animals flaunt fool’s gold while holding awkward, unexpected poses,” says Khan. “They are earnest parodies and genuine tricks.”
Khan's practice stems from a rich personal history that spans continents. Born in Indonesia to American and Pakistani parents, she has lived in Paris, Switzerland, and the United States, and her work reflects a transnational perspective and a love of contradiction. Zehra Khan’s exhibition invites viewers to encounter the strange, the glittery, and the oddly familiar—where pets posture like icons and the discarded becomes divine.
