PETER SCARBO FRAWLEY
Peter Scarbo Frawley: writer, actor, performer, concrete poet.
Born and raised in Dorchester, MA, Peter Scarbo Frawley discovered poetry in 1967 while working at the bookstore; West End started by Molly_ Cook. At the same time, Peter was involved with a poetry workshop also started by Cook, and John Watson.
In 1969-70, and again in 1970-71, Frawley was awarded the Premier Fellow in Poetry at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. He began to see the relationship between nature and poetry and started experimenting with pushing the boundaries and rules of writing to discover alternative forms of poetry.
Peter investigates words, letters and conceptual ideas, finding ways to strip down to the simplest form. He continues to discover endless layers of depth within a single word. At first glance the work can appear childlike, or insignificant, but what Peter asks from the viewer is to pause in the space between understanding and not understanding, to perceive with your senses and not with what we “know”.
